The flies are driving my horses crazy!?
I am using 1-7 dilution of Repel-X all over their bodies/legs and they wear fly masks, but I don’t think a second goes by where they’re not swishing their tails between their legs. They stomp, twitch, move around a lot, and just seem miserable. Am I being overly-sensitive, or is there something else I can try to make them seem more comfortable? Someone said to try less dilution in the spray, but won’t that burn their skin?
Help!
Thanks!
Be careful that you don’t hurt your horses skin. They are very sensitive and you could put them in pain. It is summer, your gonna have flies! But, Equitroll (sp) feed thru is good, you add it to the feed. Clean the stalls. Let them roll in mud, the mud is a barrier. Okay, so you have to brush them a little more. It sure is cheaper!! The fly predators are okay, I worked at a breeding farm that used them and I just didn’t see any difference. Maybe if you have a few horses. Fly traps work great but they stink to high heaven!! There is a fly strip that you can use and they stick to it, works good. I use fly spray, the grey bottle, dang it, tri-tech 14~there we go..I spray my horses when I get ready to ride so they will have a better chance at paying attention to me and not the flies, then afterwards I rinse them off and let them go roll. Yes, flies still land on them but the horses don’t seem to mind and the flies leave when they can’t get thru the dirt. This works great for me.
Hope some of this helps. Good luck!
